  5.     Sled Offers Internet E-mail

  8. - Sled Corp. claims that the Four11
  9. Online User Directory answers the cry
  10. of many Internet users: "How can I
  11. find someone's electronic-mail
  12. address?" The company says that basic
  13. access to the directory, which
  14. consists of almost half a million
  15. Internet users, is provided as a free
  16. service to the Internet community.

  18.     Sled spokesperson Michael
  19. Santullo told Newsbytes that the
  20. interactive directory is easily
  21. searched by e-mail, through the use
  22. of e-mail forms, or the World Wide
  23. Web, by using browsers such as Mosaic
  24. or Lynx.

  26.     The search features include
  27. "search by name," "search by
  28. location," "search by old e-mail
  29. address," "Group Connection," and
  30. "wildcards."

  32.     Additionally, A Group Connection
  33. feature makes it possible to enter
  34. searches for: "Bob at Garden
  35. Computers," "Jane in New York City
  36. who graduated from Tuckahoe High
  37. School," or "Paul who's going to
  38. Columbia University".

  40.     In addition to free services, the
  41. company says users can obtain a $20
  42. yearly membership which provides
  43. additional benefits, including: an
  44. expanded directory listing, search
  45. agents, a personalized display
  46. message, and a URL (uniform resource
  47. locator) hot-link to a personal Web
  48. page.

  50.     A personalized display message
  51. can be useful for spreading the word
  52. on consulting services, tell friends
  53. that you have moved, or make other
  54. public announcements.

  56.     Membership also includes PGP
  57. encryption certification and storage
  58. services. Members who provide proper
  59. identification can have their PGP
  60. public key signed with the Sled
  61. Silver Signature.

  63.     Signed keys are added to the key
  64. owners' directory listing and can be
  65. quickly retrieved by other Internet
  66. users through either e-mail or the
  67. Web.

  69.     These keys, actually small data
  70. files, are used to send private
  71. messages and verify digital
  72. signatures. The combination of an
  73. Internet-wide directory with a PGP
  74. key server makes it possible to
  75. quickly find someone, obtain their
  76. key, and send them a private message,
  77. claims the company.

  79.     "Sled Corporation funded the
  80. development of the directory," stated
  81. one of Sled's founders, Michael
  82. Santullo. "We expect the directory to
  83. become self-sufficient by providing
  84. value-added services through user
  85. memberships and the assistance of a
  86. limited number of corporate
  87. sponsors."
