Sled Offers Internet E-mail
Address Directory 10/24/94 PALO ALTO,
CALIFORNIA, U.S.A. 1994 OCT 24 (NB) -
- Sled Corp. claims that the Four11
Online User Directory answers the cry
of many Internet users: "How can I
find someone's electronic-mail
address?" The company says that basic
access to the directory, which
consists of almost half a million
Internet users, is provided as a free
service to the Internet community.
Sled spokesperson Michael
Santullo told Newsbytes that the
interactive directory is easily
searched by e-mail, through the use
of e-mail forms, or the World Wide
Web, by using browsers such as Mosaic
or Lynx.
The search features include
"search by name," "search by
location," "search by old e-mail
address," "Group Connection," and
"wildcards."
Additionally, A Group Connection
feature makes it possible to enter
searches for: "Bob at Garden
Computers," "Jane in New York City
who graduated from Tuckahoe High
School," or "Paul who's going to
Columbia University".
In addition to free services, the
company says users can obtain a $20
yearly membership which provides
additional benefits, including: an
expanded directory listing, search
agents, a personalized display
message, and a URL (uniform resource
locator) hot-link to a personal Web
page.
A personalized display message
can be useful for spreading the word
on consulting services, tell friends
that you have moved, or make other
public announcements.
Membership also includes PGP
encryption certification and storage
services. Members who provide proper
identification can have their PGP
public key signed with the Sled
Silver Signature.
Signed keys are added to the key
owners' directory listing and can be
quickly retrieved by other Internet
users through either e-mail or the
Web.
These keys, actually small data
files, are used to send private
messages and verify digital
signatures. The combination of an
Internet-wide directory with a PGP
key server makes it possible to
quickly find someone, obtain their
key, and send them a private message,
claims the company.
"Sled Corporation funded the
development of the directory," stated
one of Sled's founders, Michael
Santullo. "We expect the directory to
become self-sufficient by providing
value-added services through user
memberships and the assistance of a
limited number of corporate
sponsors."
To enter a free listing and
search the directory, send an e-mail
to free@Four11.com, or connect to the
Four11 Web page at URL
http://www.Four11.com/.
